Curriculum...
Our MMO teachers will be implementing the WINGS Curriculum, one of the Georgia Pre-K approved curricula. WINGS stands for Wonder, Interests, Needs, Goals, and Skills and focuses on 5 goal areas:
1. Physical Activity
2. Social-Emotional Skills
3. Language & Literacy
4. Approaches to Learning
5. Cognitive Abilities (Math, Science, Social Studies, Thought Process, and Creative Development)
Not only will our program be utilizing this great curriculum, but our director, Kristen Stroud, has aligned all of the learning goals set forth by WINGS with the Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS). The GELDS are a continuum of skills, behaviors, and concepts that children develop throughout this time of life. They are divided into age groups and serve as a framework for learning. The GELDS are aligned with the Head Start Child Outcomes Framework, the CCGPS for K-12, and the Work Sampling System Assessment.
When your child attends MMO at C&C, they will meet their Physical Activity goals through the daily, 45-minute gymnastics lesson, their Social-Emotional goals through interaction with teachers and peers, their Language & Literacy goals through daily lessons focused on communication, letters/letter sounds, print awareness, vocabulary, and comprehension. They will meet their Approaches to Learning goals through gaining independence in their learning, showing persistence, and showing curiosity in their learning, and their Cognitive Ability goals through lessons focused on shapes, number recognition/representation, sorting, measurement, scientific exploration, demonstrating awareness of self and others/others' cultures, showing problem-solving skills, and expressing themselves through music, dance, drama, and art.
